In-Person Home School DaysHomeschool Days: Working with Wood

Whether your student loves a hammer or is trying out woodworking for the first time, we have a project to suit their skill set. Learn all about the safety and use of these unique historic tools. Examples of woodworking from the museum collection will be shown before we bore into a small take-home project. Enroll here.

For ages 6-12 with an adult, cost: $10 per person. Preregistration is required.

Saturday mornings are a great time to take a nature walk and discover amazing facts about New Jersey's wildlife! Join a naturalist for this popular series to learn about a new animal every month. In this session, we'll explore the slithery snakes of NJ and get to meet one of our LIVE resident snakes! Parents are welcome to drop off or stay and take part. Register here.

intro to bird songEducating Educators: Learning and Teaching about Migrating Songbirds

Calling all teachers, naturalists, environmental educators, scout leaders, and homeschool parents! Let the experts at the Great Swamp teach you what and how to teach about a variety of natural history topics. The first half of the program is dedicated to learning the deep background knowledge you need to teach each topic, while the second half will showcase a variety of lessons and activities to use with different ages. This month focuses on songbirds returning from migration to their nesting grounds in NJ. Register here.

Loius BauerTubbs Lecture: Taking Private Gardens Public and Making them Great in the Process

What makes a formerly private garden inviting to the public and still retain its glory? How do plants convey history yet remain forward-looking? Louis Bauer, Founding Director of Greenwood Gardens and former Director of Horticulture at Wave Hill Gardens will talk about the flowers, trees, and shrubs that make an old garden look new and modern. Light refreshments will be served after the lecture in the Historic Tubbs House. Join us here.

Cooper MillMini-Coopers Summer Camp at the Cooper Gristmill

Ages 7 – 10; Time: 9:00 am – 11:30 am

Session 1: July 22 – 26; Session 2: July 29 – August 2

Cost: $125 per camper per session.

Campers will use all of their senses, keep their nose to the grindstone, and explore STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) through the thrill of history in action, conduct hands-on experiments, explore the Black River in search of clues from its earliest settlers, and learn how nature, science and technology work together.
