A graduate of Princeton University (1974) and Yale School of Forestry (1986), Peter Blanchard has long been involved in environmental education and land conservation. He is a founder of Greenwood Gardens, a historic public garden in Short Hills, New Jersey, and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board. A Board member of the Frick Collection (NYC), Peter actively combines his love of nature and natural history with landscape drawing and painting. At Greenwood, he holds journaling workshops designed to promote close observation and enjoyment of the natural world through writing and sketching. He is the author of three long-range land conservation studies published by the Trust for Public Land and New York City Audubon: Buffer the Bay Revisited, a review of unprotected open space fringing Jamaica Bay (1992); The Century Plan, presenting 100 conservation sites on Barnegat Bay (1994); and An Islanded Nature, a study of remaining natural areas in Western Staten Island (2001). Peter is also the author of We Were an Island; the Maine Life of Art and Nan Kellam (University Press of New England, 2010) and Greenwood; A Garden Path to Nature and the Past (Greenwood Gardens Publications, 2016). He resides in New York City with his wife, Sofia, son Theo, and Ginnie, a Welsh corgi. |
