Caroline, ill and homebound, is visited by her high school classmate Anthony to complete a project about Walt Whitman. As these two let their guards down and reveal their secrets, the mundane poetry project unlocks the deeper mysteries between the two. Winner of the 2014 Steinberg/ATCA New Play Award Winner and finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Playwrighting Prize, I and You is a haunting play about the strange and transcendent connections between us all.
“I’ve rarely been effected by an initial reading of a play as I was with this one,” says director Chris O’Connor. “I find this play funny, heartbreaking, and deeply moving. Lauren Gunderson beautifully captures the voice of the post-millennial generation and renders a play that contains a relatable truth that cuts through all generations. I think this production will strongly resonate with the MST audience.”
I and You stars Roland Lane (Scraps at The Flea) and Simone Grossman (Arcade Amerikana at Industry City), both making their MST debuts.
The creative team includes many of MST resident designers; scenic designer Jennifer Price Fick (The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi), costume designer Peter Fogel (The 39 Steps), lighting designer Jason Flamos (It’s a Wonderful Life), and sound designer Sean Hagerty (The Net Will Appear).

SIMONE GROSSMAN (Caroline) is thrilled to be part of the talented team of I and You! She was last seen in Arcade Amerikana, a devised immersive “rave theatre” experience hosted at Industry City. Regional theatre credits include: Far Away, The Prime of Ms. Jean Brodie, Grey Gardens at Studio Theatre in Washington D.C, and A Christmas Carol at Fords Theater. Other theatre credits include: The Virgin Woods (directed by Sarah Krohn), Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream at Shakespeare's Globe in London (directed by Rebecca Gatward,) Darlene in Balm in Gilead (directed by Louisa Proske), A Midsummer Night's Dream (directed by Lian Walden,) and Frola in Absolutely! Perhaps (directed by Kathleen McNenny.) Film/TV: Deadly Sins, Collective Unconscious, Cause, and The Strange Ones. Education: Laguardia High School for the Performing Arts, Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, the Higher Education Program at Shakespeare's Globe, and Rutgers University.
CHRIS O’CONNOR (Artistic Director, Director) Chris is Founding Artistic Director of Mile Square Theatre. In 2017, he received an Award of Excellence from the New Jersey Theatre Alliance for his leadership as Artistic Director of Mile Square Theatre. As an actor, Chris has performed in such theatres as Franklin Stage Company, Seattle’s A Contemporary Theatre, The Culture Project, Soho Rep, The Ahmanson, Gloucester Stage, Provisional Theatre of Los Angeles, The Bathhouse Theatre, Seattle Children's Theatre, City Theatre in Pittsburgh, where he originated the role of Peter in Craig Wright’s The Pavilion, and recently at Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Billy Elliot. Recent TV credits include Magic City and Burn Notice. He appears in the upcoming indie thriller Depraved. Chris has directed over 25 productions at MST and has directed at theatres and universities all over America, most recently at Lyric Repertory in Logan, Utah, where he directed The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged. His recent work at Mile Square Theatre includes The Garden of Rikki Tikki Tavi, Betrayal, Circle Mirror Transformation and the world premiere of Long Gone Daddy by Joseph Gallo. He played Vanya in last season’s production of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. He is an Assistant Professor on the Theatre Arts faculty at Molloy College. Chris holds a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MFA from Rutgers University.
