STAR, HOLIDAY SHOWS SCHEDULED @ RVCC PLANETARIUM

Mercury Santa_RVCC PlanetariumThe Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium in Branchburg has a busy lineup for all ages in December, with star shows and holiday-themed offerings as well as a sensory-friendly presentation for special needs families.

WHERE: RVCC Planetarium, 118 Lamington Rd., Branchburg

The Alien Who Stole Christmas
WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays, December 3 & 4, 10 & 11, 17 & 18, 3 p.m.

Discover the stars visible in the winter sky. Then follow Santa on a trip through the solar system after he is kidnapped by a friendly alien. Children on the other planets also want presents. (Recommended for ages 6-10)

Laser bellsWinter Wonder Lights
WHEN: Saturdays and Sundays, December 3 & 4, 10 & 11, 17 & 18, 4 p.m.; Saturdays, December 3, 10, 17, 8 p.m.

Enjoy a laser concert while listening to such holiday tunes as “Wizards in Winter,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” and “Dominic the Donkey.” (Recommended for ages 6 to adult) 

Astronomy Tonight
WHEN: Saturday, December 3, 7 p.m.
Using the Planetarium’s DigitalSky digital theater, experience a guided tour of the night sky. Learn about some of the popular constellations visible from sunset to sunrise, as well as the stories behind them. Hear about how and where in the sky to find the brightest planets. Weather permitting, the 3M Observatory will be open after the show. (Recommended for ages 8 to adult)

Black Holes
WHEN: Saturdays, December 10 & 17, 7 p.m.
Learn about one of the most mystifying, awe-inspiring phenomena in the universe: a black hole. Explore the science and mystery of black holes, pondering such questions as: Where do they come from?  Where do they go?  How do we find them?  Is there one on Earth's horizon?  (Recommended for ages 8 to adult)

The Alien Who Stole Christmas (Sensory-friendly version)
WHEN:  Saturday, December 3, 5 p.m.

During this presentation for special needs families, follow Santa on a trip through the solar system when he’s kidnapped by a friendly alien. The kids on the other planets also want presents. Afterwards, audience members will listen to holiday hits while lasers “dance” across the dome during an abbreviated presentation of the Winter Wonder Lights show.
