DEFIANCE
BY JOHN PATRICK SHANLEY

WHEN: Tuesday, December 6th and Wednesday, December 7th at 7:30 pm
WHERE: The Summit Playhouse, 10 New England Ave., Summit, NJ 07901

DEFIANCE is the second work in Mr. Shanley’s trilogy which began with Doubt. It is set in 1971 at a military base where a lieutenant colonel and his reluctant protégé, a young African-American captain, clash over issues of race and authority within the Marine Corps, as the civil rights movement and Vietnam divide the world outside.

“As thoughtful and probing as Doubt. Defiance is filled with the provocative questions and bristling dialogue for which Mr. Shanley is known … as it wonders about its big knotty subjects.New York Times.

“Defiance is a tightly woven parable. It is a very rich and satisfying piece.” - Village Voice.

Defiance is directed by Frank Licato. Mr. Licato received a Perry Award for Best Director, for his production of Grapes of Wrath. He is Artistic Director of Hudson Theatre Works, a professional theater company located in Hudson County, N.J. He seeks five men/one woman to fill out his cast.

Auditions will consist of cold reading from sides provided, but please have a monologue ready if asked. Sides and Audition forms are available prior to the auditions. To access them please visit our site at www.thesummitplayhouse.org.
