You may or may not know about Writers Theatre of New Jersey, or you may be familiar with us by our old name—Playwrights Theatre of New Jersey. Now in our 30th year, we have a statewide reputation for high-quality arts-in-education programs and a national reputation for the development of new works for the stage.

As a local educator who works with students grades 9-12, I thought you might be interested in one of the most exciting events of our season. The High School winners of the New Jersey Young Playwrights Contest will have their plays performed as staged readings by a company of professional actors and directors. It is an exciting evening full of energy and fun.

The readings will be followed by a post-show discussion with the authors and directors.

The winning plays this year are:

  • Corn Maze by Francesca Badalamenti, Newark Academy
  • Death Rows by Jasmine Sharma, Bergen County Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts
  • Infinite Confusion by Myriam Burger, Bergen County Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts
  • Uncovering Moonshine by Cristina Lopez, Chatham High School
  • Visible by Jessica Dell Beni, Middlesex County Vocational and Technical Schools - East Brunswick Campus

WHERE: The Mayo Performing Arts Center, 100 South St., Morristown, NJ 07960

Hope to see you there!
