MORRIS MUSEUM OFFERS FUN-FILLED ACTIVITIES FOR SCHOOL VACATION DAYS

The Morris Museum is presenting a host of fun-filled activities for families.on  Highlights include performances of Pinocchio and Other Tales and Berenstain Bears: Hospital Friends in the Bickford Theatre, five studio art workshops and fall-themed craft activities.

Children's Theatre:
Pinocchio and Other Tales

Bright Star Touring Theatre
Ages 3 to 9

The hilarious national children’s theatre company will have you laughing in the aisles with this re-telling of the stories of Pinocchio and Robin Hood. Lots of audience interaction and plenty of puns bring these literary classics to life in an unforgettable fashion.

Studio Art Workshop
Create with Clay with Nina Nemeth
Thursday, November 5, 9:30AM – 12:00PM
Ages 7-11

Come have fun at this sculpture workshop! Sculpt a 3-dimensional “portrait” of your favorite person, a special animal friend or an intriguing figure from the art world! Learn how to create your object’s basic shape in one material, then fill it out with clay for a completed sculpture. Advance registration required.

Mosaic Night-Light with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo
Thursday, November 5, 1:00 – 3:30PM
Ages 5 – adult

Learn how to make your own mosaic night light. You will learn how to use glass nippers to cut glass into pieces and fit them together on a glass surface. Take home a complete night light to light up your night! Advance registration required.

Walnut Street Theatre
Ages 3 to 9

Adapted from the brand new book by Michael Berenstain, go to the doctor with Brother Bear, Sister Bear, Mama and Papa Bear. Sister Bear does not want to see the doctor, and Brother Bear can never remember to wash his hands. They all learn lessons about family and good health.

Fantasy Creatures with Kelly Bogucz

Ages 6-10

A fire-breathing dragon? A mysterious gryphon? Unknown creatures of the depth? Using some of the elements of fine arts, learn about proportion and drawing techniques for rendering real-life animals. Then have fun expanding on that knowledge to create your favorite creature on a Chinese watercolor scroll! Advance registration required.

Studio Art Workshop
Mixed Media Collage with Nina Nemeth

Ages 10-14+

Explore some of the many mixed media methods using various tools – you might use paint, you might use “bleeding paper,” maybe ink, or collage materials from any number of sources. Enjoy this eye-opening workshop while exploring methods and mediums available to ultimately express yourself in a unique work of art. Advance registration required.

Studio Art Workshop
Organic Design Wall Mosaic with Eleanor Parr-DiLeo
Friday, November 6, 12:00 – 4:00PM
Ages 5 – adult

Create an organic design wall mosaic using found objects such as seeds, gravel, stones, pebbles, sea shells, sticks, beans, and other items. Your finished mosaic piece will measure 12 inches square. Advance registration required.
TICKETS: Museum member $60, non-member $65, supply fee $15

About the Morris Museum
Founded in 1913, the Morris Museum is an award-winning, community-based arts and cultural institution which serves the public through high caliber exhibitions in the arts, sciences and humanities.  The Museum also offers educational programs, family events, and is home to the Bickford Theatre and its wide range of performing arts offerings. Continuously serving the public since 1913, the Morris Museum has been designated a Major Arts Institution and has received the New Jersey State Council on the Arts’ Citation of Excellence, among other awards. The first museum in New Jersey to be accredited, the Morris Museum was re-accredited in 2013 by the American Alliance of Museums. 

The Morris Museum is a Blue Star Museum, offering free admission to active duty military personnel and their families, from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

Location & Hours
The Museum is located at 6 Normandy Heights Road (at the corner of Columbia Turnpike) in Morristown, NJ, and is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 11:00am to 5:00pm and Sunday, 12:00 to 5:00pm. In addition, the Museum is open evenings from 5:00 to 8:00pm on the second and third Thursday of the month. Admission to the Museum is $10 for adults and $7 for children, students and senior citizens.
