Download the fall brochure for full listing of avalible classes, or check out our highlights below. | | Digital Classes (Ages 8–12) | Digital Filmmaking WHEN: Thursdays, 4:30–6 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Michael Scotti TUITION: $250 members,$280 nonmembers Register From script to screen, this course will guide students through the full spectrum of the narrative filmmaking process in a fun, hands-on environment. Areas of focus will include screenwriting, camera operation, cinematography, lighting, directing, and sound design. Using professional film equipment and industry standard editing software, students will experiment with various storytelling techniques and create films they’ll be proud to call their own, while learning the magic behind the art of moviemaking. Digital Photography WHEN: Wednesdays, 4–5:30 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Deborah Guzmán-Meyer TUITION: $250 members, $280 nonmembers Register No previous experience in photography is required for this beginner course. Students will learn how to get the most out of their digital cameras through a range of fun, hands-on activities. Students will learn about different settings on digital cameras, as well as the basic principles of photography—how a lens and shutter work, composition, light, and contrast. Students will also learn how to perform some basic editing techniques using Photoshop CS5. Canon point-and-shoot cameras will be available for each student or students may bring their own camera. Lego Animation WHEN: Mondays, 4:30–6 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Ryan Moore TUITION: $250 members, $280 nonmembers Register Everything is awesome in this unique class that teaches young students the art of stop motion animation using Lego™ building blocks. Students will have the opportunity to create sets and characters, making exciting short films that set them on the path to becoming a master builder. With a focus on visual storytelling techniques, Lego Animation is the perfect class to let your imagination run wild! | Inspired by Eric Carle: Animals and Friends | Creative Writing with Eric Carle (Ages 8–12) WHEN: Wednesdays, 4–5 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Susan Sonneborn TUITION: $240 members, $270 nonmembers Register Calling all young writers and art lovers! Use the Museum as your muse while developing and strengthening vital writing skills and expanding your creative expression. This session will focus on themes and topics inspired by MAM's exhibition Eric Carle: Animals and Friends. A certified Language Arts teacher will work with students to hone fundamentals while encouraging expressive and creative writing through poetry, opinion piece, short stories and more. Collage with Eric Carle (Ages 5–7) WHEN: Wednesdays, 4–5 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Peg Kenselaar TUITION: $240 members, $260 nonmembers Register Explore the endless possibilities of collage and paper art, whilst being inspired by the artwork of beloved children's book illustrator Eric Carle. Students will visit MAM's exhibition of Eric Carle: Animals and Friends and take drawing and painting to a new level to create collages, prints, rubbings and three- dimensional art. We will use all kinds of papers—decorative, patterned, colorful, shiny, textured, and recycled—and will even make our own, just like Eric Carle! Painted Paper Illustration: The Eric Carle Style WHEN: Sunday, November 8, 11 a.m.–2 p.m. INSTRUCTOR: Kristine Lombardi TUITION: $75 members, $95 nonmembers Register In keeping with Carle's creative techniques, students will create one-of-a-kind papers by painting them and applying texture through the use of sponges, fabrics, and other materials. Once dried, simple shapes will be cut out and assembled into an illustration. Students are encouraged to think about subject matter before the workshops and bring predrawn sketches so that class time can be devoted to the creation of colored papers and collage.
