• Auditionees should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show.
• They should also bring clothing suitable for an intense dance audition.

White Christmas is based on the perennial classic movie that starred Bing Crosby. It tells the story of two GIs who become song-and-dance stars and a General who retires to run an inn (badly) in Vermont. When the inn sputters, the GIs mount a rescue effort and save the day. The Irving Berlin score abounds in well-known, well-loved classic melodies that give rise to spectacular production numbers. Thus, dancers who sing and singers who dance are needed for the cast.

The first rehearsal will be on Saturday, September 21^st. Performances will be at the Count Basie Theatre beginning November 15^th.

By the time Edgar Winter left his hometown of Beaumont, Texas in the 1960's, he was already technically proficient in every aspect of music. A child prodigy who achieved international success early on, Edgar has found an audience in every major entertainment medium--music, film and television. A prolific writer, Edgar's music encompasses many different genres, including rock, jazz, blues, and pop. From his critically acclaimed 1970 debut release, Entrance, he has demonstrated his unique style and ability to cross the genre lines and do the unexpected. His early recording of "Tobacco Road" is a powerful, emotionally devastating masterpiece that propelled him into the national spotlight. Edgar followed Entrance with two hit albums backed by his group White Trash, a group originally comprised of musicians from Texas and Louisiana. White Trash enjoyed huge success, both with the 1971 release of the studio album, Edgar Winter's White Trash, and with 1972's follow-up live gold album, Roadwork.

With over 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, Edgar Winter has not been satisfied to ride the wave of popular music stardom. Major national television and radio campaigns have relied on Edgar's music to advertise their products. Edgar has also made frequent television appearances, both to promote his music, and to give his opinions on everything from Politically Incorrect to a commercial with George Hamilton for Miller Lite beer. He has appeared in the film "Netherworld", and the TV shows "The Cape,” "Mysterious Ways," "David Letterman" and "Jimmy Kimmel."

Edgar's music can be heard in no fewer than fifteen film and television projects, including Netherworld, Air America, My Cousin Vinny, Encino Man, Son In Law, What's Love Got to do With It, Wayne's World 2, Starkid, Wag the Dog, Knockabout Guys, Duets, Radio, The Simpsons, Queer as Folk, and Tupac Resurrection. Edgar's CD and DVD, titled, Live At The Galaxy was recorded live at the Galaxy Theatre for Classic Pictures in 2003.

Edgar Winter's live shows consistently receive rave reviews. His music is always evolving, and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing results. Enter Lucretia Fossilwart, scented candle saleswoman and Substitute Fairy Godmother. This will not end well. (Or will it?)

• The Three Little Pigs: (3 males/ females, 10+) Maurice, Wembly and Wasabi are pigs with attitudes. They play poker and like eating chips and dip.
• King Vladimir: (male, 20-50) The King of the land; anxious for his son to finally grow up and find a wife. (May possibly double up with the role of Rumpelstiltskin)
• Queen Shania: (female, 20-40) The Queen; the true ruler of the land.
• Prince Charmfull: (male, 16+) A nerdy prince who enjoys playing with model trains and eating lama cheese.

SHOW DESCRIPTION:
This Broadway hit celebrates the music and lyrics of award-winning composer Jerry Herman. It features all the best songs for women from such immortal musicals as Mame, Hello Dolly!, Milk and Honey, Mack and Mabel, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine and La Cage Aux Folles.

CAST REQUIREMENTS: 7 Women (ages 25 and up)

• Singers should be prepared to sing a traditional Broadway song, either one by Jerry Herman, or something similar.
• No "pop" songs should be sung. All need some belt (C) and an ability to sing harmony.
• There is no spoken dialogue in the show. There will be some movement in the show.
  

Actors are asked to arrive to sign in within the first hour of the audition start time. All roles are available. Casting is open, and newcomers are especially welcomed. Crew and other volunteers are also needed for the event. If interested, please contact info@barntheatre.org .

PAPER MILL PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES A CHILDREN’S OPEN CALL AUDITION FOR “OLIVER!”

Paper Mill Playhouse seeks boys (or girls who can play boys) who look ages 10–14 to play “Orphans” in the opening number and the role of “Oliver.”

WHEN: Saturday, September 7, beginning at 9 AM.
WHERE: Paper Mill Playhouse, 22 Brookside Drive, Millburn

Audition signup will take place in the theater’s lobby on a first-come, first-served basis on Saturday, September 7, beginning at 9:00AM. Children and their guardian should join the line in front of the theater and enter through the front doors of the theater only. Every child should bring a picture and resume stapled together.

Children will be taught a short piece of music from the show and should wear appropriate footwear as they may be asked to dance. Callbacks will be held on the same day. Depending on the number of children auditioning, there is no guarantee everyone will be seen.

Oliver! will run from November 21 to December 29 (Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day off). Rehearsals begin Monday, October 28 in New York City.

WOMEN’S THEATER COMPANY ANNOUNCES MASTERFUL 21st SEASON

Barbara Krajkowski, Artistic Director of the Women’s Theater Company, a professional theater located in the heart of Morris County in Parsippany, proudly announces the twenty-first season with a masterful line-up complete with plays, a musical and cabaret performances.

 

MASTER CLASS

Master Class is based on the larger-than-life opera diva, Maria Callas, who later in her career, held master classes at Juilliard in the 1970’s. In the play, the glamorous, commanding and hysterical Callas teaches a master class and shares her experience in opera and stage with the attendees (the audience). Three different students Sophie, Tony and Sharon have the opportunity to sing and receive constructive criticism. As each student performs, they become”‘victims” of Callas’s callousness. Callas comically and poignantly reminisces about her life on and off the stage, soliloquizing her innermost thoughts, regrets and personal inadequacies.

Working is the 2010 revised musical written by Tony-Award winner Stephen
Schwartz and Nina Faso. Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and women the world so often takes for granted: the school teacher, the phone operator, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, and the housewife, just to name a few. Set in contemporary America, Working contains timeless truths. The musical explores the workers’ relationships to their work and reveals aspects of their humanity, regardless of the trappings of the job itself.

The Family Gathering portrays a Thanksgiving Dinner gathering where hidden and repressed feelings and wounds surface as the meal progresses. The play presents the personal perspectives of a mother, her daughter, the daughter's husband, the mother's husband and a family friend. We see from these different perspectives that the facts of these wounds have very subjective roots and interpretations. If the play has any discernible theme, that theme would be the role of a woman as mother, wife, and woman in contemporary society.

Starting in 1950 The Fanny Brice Story chronicles the life of the famed performer through an interview with a young girl named Emmie who claims to be her biggest fan. Flipping back and forth through time we meet the many people who influenced and shaped Fanny’s life and career in show business such as Eddie Cantor, WC Fields, Flo Ziegfeld, Arnold Rothstein, George M. Cohan, countless Vaudeville showgirls and of course Nicky Arnstein, her husband and  noted con man. The play boasts songs from Fanny’s era such as Second Hand Rose, Oh, That Beautiful Rag, Give My Regards to Broadway and many more!
