freed photoshoot 2008The lead role of the Snow Queen will be performed by Jillian Davis, a former member of the DanceVision Performance Company and alumna of Princeton Dance and Theater Studio’s Conservatory Program.

The Snow Queen premiered to sold-out audiences in December 2011 as a much needed holiday ballet alternative to The Nutcracker. This thrilling and beautiful ballet tells the tale of a young girl’s courageous journey to rescue her beloved friend from the beautiful, yet evil Snow Queen. Based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen story, the ballet is performed to an original score that includes music by Rimsky-Korsakov and Edvard Grieg. In addition to the enchanting and spirited music and the unique and exciting choreography, The Snow Queen features projection artwork as its backdrop. Through this engaging technique, the audience is carried on a journey with the characters as they dance from the lively Scandinavian village square to the Snow Queen’s frigid ice castle.

Ms. Davis, shown in the attached photos, exemplifies one goal of DanceVision Performance Company: to provide professional-quality performance experiences to pre-professional dancers so that they are prepared for a dance career. After graduating from PDT and DanceVision, she studied on full scholarship at Pacific Northwest Ballet in their Professional Division, and at Alonzo King LINES Ballet. She has worked with companies in San Francisco and New York, including Labayen Dance/SF, Blue Scorpion Dance Theater, and Ballet Neo, as well as for the choreographer, Alexander Tressor.

Ms. Davis reflects upon her time with DanceVision: “Through my experiences with DanceVision, I was more than prepared for the professional world that I am in now. All of the dancers are expected to work at a professional level, respecting each other, learning the choreography, putting their own voice into the steps, and making the extra effort to make the ballet work.”

DanceVision’s Artistic Director, Risa Kaplowitz, is thrilled to see Ms. Davis in the role of the Snow Queen. “It is always gratifying to see our students succeed in the professional world," says Ms. Kaplowitz. "Jillian was a fierce and beautiful Dark Angel in our production of The Secret Garden, and I believe that she will make the quintessential Snow Queen."

DanceVision, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation founded by Artistic Director Risa Kaplowitz and Susan Jaffe in 2005. DanceVision’s mission is to enrich the community with quality dance experiences, including performances, school residencies, and dance festivals. DanceVision's performance arm produces full-length ballets which are performed at TCNJ's Kendall Theater twice a year and is proud to present the highest quality performances at a most affordable price. DanceVision also has an active community outreach program and maintains a long-standing relationship with the children of HomeFront, who are invited to attend all DanceVision performances, and for whom DanceVision provides a summer camp.
