PHOENIX PRODUCTIONS ANNOUNCES OPEN AUDITIONS FOR “DAMN YANKEES”

WHEN: Saturday, July 13, from 12 to 4 PM, Monday, July 15, from 7 to 9 PM and Wednesday, July 17, from 7 to 9 PM

Phoenix Rehearsal Center, 111 Monmouth Street in Red Bank

All roles are open and will remain so until the end of auditions.

Performances will take place at the Count Basie Theatre on September 20, 21st, 27 and 28 at 8 PM and September 22 and 29 at 3 PM.

Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with book by George Abbot and music/lyrics by Adler and Ross. It tells the story of a middle-aged sports fan who trades his soul for the chance to regain his youth and lead his team past the hated Yankees. Damn Yankees ran on Broadway for over 1,000 performances and featured songs such as “Goodbye Old Girl” and “Those Were the Good Old Days.”

  • Auditionees should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show.
  • Children will be asked to sing only.
  • Adults should bring proper footwear and attire for a dance audition.

CAST REQUIREMENTS:

  • Joe Boyd: age 45+. Joe is a middle-age, overweight married man who is in love with baseball, and specifically the Washington Senators. Sentimental as he is devoted to both his wife and the Senators. Tenor/Barione.
  • Meg Boyd: age 40+. Joe's loyal, traditional wife who suffers through Joe’s devotion to baseball because of her love for him. Mezzo-Soprano
  • Mr. Applegate: 30s-40s. “The Devil” in disguise as a slick fast-talking salesman. Good comic timing and movement a plus. Baritone
  • Sister: 40ish. A friend of Meg. She and Doris are also baseball fans. Soprano
  • Doris: 40ish. A friend of Meg. She and Sister are also baseball fans.
  • Joe Hardy: The twenty-two year old, home run hitting alter ego of Joe Boyd. Athletically muscular and highly energetic. Tenor/Baritone
  • Van Buren: 40s-50s. The hard working manager of the Washington senators with great heart but no luck. Baritone
  • Henry: Center field for the Senators.
  • Sohovik: Third base for the Senators.
  • Smokey: Second base for the Senators.
  • Linville: Catcher for the Senators.
  • Mickey: Infielder for the Senators.
  • Lowe: Left field for the Senators.
  • Henry: Center field for the Senators.
  • Gloria Thorpe: 20s-30s. A probing reporter. Highly energetic, good dance and movement skills. Mezzo/Belter
  • Lola: 20s-30s. The Devil's seductress assistant. The character has a reputation of the most seductive siren in history with the ability to burn the stage. Strong dance skills. Alto
  • Welsh: The team owner of the Senators.
  • The Commissioner: 50s -60s.
  • Eddie: A strong dancer who performs “Who’s Got the Pain” with Lola.
  • From the Ensemble: Baseball Players, Batboys, Wives, Fans. Also needed are men ranging from good movers to strong dancers, and women who move well. Tap is a plus for baseball players and men of the ensemble.
  • Children’s Ensemble: Seeking a small ensemble of kids ages 8-12 to play baseball fans. Strong singers, limited movement.
