Part of The Divas of Jersey Jazz Concert Series—a local arts series focusing on the NJ female jazz vocalist. “In Tune & On Time: The Art of Vocal Jazz” is a 3-hour vocal workshop emphasizing the defining elements of jazz singing. The workshop will include exercises in vocal techniques, ear training, with the added benefit of Ms. Vitro’s expertise & critique.

A must for the would-be jazz singer.

The workshop begins with mental imaging, breathing and stretching exercises, then straight into a vocal technique warm up, complete with placement, long tones and tongue stretching exercises. Vocal technique is immediately followed by ear training exercises which include: rhythmic patterns, melodic patterns, syllable articulation, chord scales, guide tones and phrasing. Each vocalist will sing two songs of their choosing, followed by a critique of lyric interpretation and lyric improvisation. A work packet and a CD are created for each student.

Having toured the world as an esteemed performer, clinician, recording artist, vocal instructor and ambassador, Roseanna Vitro has proven herself a reigning member of the jazz community. Her collaborations, covering a wide range of music and stylistic directions, have been cited and celebrated, far and wide.

Vitro has served as a U.S. Jazz Ambassador sponsored by the U.S. State Dept. and The Kennedy Center & Jazz at Lincoln Center, Chair of the Vocal Jazz Department at the New Jersey City University and has headlined at jazz's most prestigious venues. Given her lifelong commitment to the art of jazz singing—exemplified by her myriad of achievements on the bandstand, in the studio, and in classrooms fronting jazz’s next generation—Roseanna displays a heart and a soul rare by any standards.
