Campers work in diverse groups to envision, prototype, design, test and execute unique creations using 21st century skills such as critical-thinking, creativity and collaboration. Through the development of a marketing strategy for their designs, campers will cultivate language art skills and new vocabulary. This summer, campers’ will be immersed in the museum’s new Makerspace—a place where young people explore their own interests, gain hands-on experience with tools and new technologies, develop innovative designs and build projects. Week 1: July 8 to 12—Wearable Tech Design and create fashion such as clothing or accessories imbedded with technology. Week 2: July 15 to 19—Tech Art Create art using technology with simple machinery or circuitry. Week 3: July 22 to 26—Make a Sustainable Future Invent and build a product which uses renewable resources as its material or power. Week 4: July 29 to August 2—Wild Weather Use your creative skills to help solve a real-world challenge we are facing—the adverse affects of extreme weather. Week 5: August 5 to 9— Space Rover Construct a space exploration vehicle inspired by nature that could travel into space, land on a planet and then investigate its environment through a simulated obstacle course. Week 6: August 12 to 16—What Bugs You? Take action to improve your life! Design and build a solution to whatever bugs you most in your day-to-day life. Registration: Click here to register online.
