Lisa Kron’s 2.5 Minute Ride, first performed in New York in 1999, has been honored with Obie, Drama-Logue and GLAAD Media Awards. In this solo performance, Kron reflects on her father’s life as she recounts a journey that she and her father made to Auschwitz, where all of his family had perished. Kron interweaves this narrative with stories of her Midwestern family’s visits to the Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio, where her father—who was by then legally blind—loved to ride the roller coasters. Written and performed by one of the most remarkable storytellers in the American theater, 2.5 Minute Ride is a poignant, funny, complex meditation on tragedy, grief and family.

2.5 Minute Ride is seminal to the American theater,” says Artistic Director John Dias. “It’s wildly improbable how deep and profoundly moving it is—because it is also very, very funny. It’s a play and performance like nothing else I’ve ever seen in my life.”

Lisa Kron’s (Playwright and Performer) work has been widely produced in New York regionally and internationally. Her plays include In The Wake (Lortel and GLAAD best play nominations, Susan Smith Blackburn Prize finalist, included in Best Plays of 2010-2011); Well (2006 Tony nomination, included in Best Plays of 2003-2004); and The Ver**zon Play (2012 Humana Festival of New Plays). She is also a founding member of the Obie- and Bessie Award-winning theater company The Five Lesbian Brothers. As an actor she was most recently seen in the Foundry Theatre’s Good Person of Szechwan.

Mark Brokaw (Director) directed 2.5 Minute Ride at The Public Theater in 1999. His most recent Broadway credits include Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella and The Lyons. New York premieres include works by David Auburn, Lynda Barry, Douglas Carter Beane, Charles Busch, Julia Cho, Lisa Kron, Kenneth Lonergan, Craig Lucas, Nicky Silver, Paula Vogel, and Wendy Wasserstein. He is the Artistic Director of the Yale Institute for Music Theatre and an Artistic Associate at Roundabout Theatre.

The creative team for 2.5 Minute Ride includes scenic designer Allen Moyer, lighting designer Philip Rosenberg, sound designer Darron L West, and original music by Dan Froot. The stage manager is Rick Steiger.
