Revealing the African Presence

Revealing the African Presence in Renaissance Europe offers compelling new insights into one of the most fertile periods in European art. In this panel discussion, an array of acclaimed scholars explore varying ways of looking at the place of Africans in Renaissance art and society. Panelists include Kwame Anthony Appiah, Laurance S. Rockefeller University Professor of Philosophy and the University Center for Human Values; Adam Beaver, assistant professor of history; and Joaneath Spicer, the James A. Murnaghan Curator of Renaissance and Baroque Art at the Walters Art Museum. Anthony Grafton, Henry Putnam University Professor of History, will serve as moderator. A reception in the Art Museum will follow.

The Art around Us

Outside the Museum's walls, the Art Museum oversees a collection of more than seven hundred works of art in different media that reflect Princeton's rich history, traditions, and aspirations. From the collection of historic Princeton portraits to the Putnam Collection of modern sculpture, these collections bring rich textures to the University's visual arts environment. Learn more about the campus art collections and the self-guided mobile tour scheduled to debut in May.

Slow Art Day

WHEN: Saturday, April 27, 10:30 AM – 1 PM

Drop in anytime between 10:30 AM and 1 PM and enjoy a self-guided, interactive tour followed by a related art project. This week, in honor of Slow Art Day, we invite families to spend time looking at and discussing works of art. Create a masterpiece of your own inspired by the works you've seen. All ages are welcome and no reservations are needed.
