THE MUSIC MAN is the story of the arrival in River City, Iowa of a fast-talking traveling salesman, "Professor" Harold Hill, in July of 1912. He cons the locals into starting a boy's band to keep the youngsters out of trouble and along the way falls in love with Marian, the librarian and piano teacher. It is chock full of wonderful music: Ya Got Trouble, Seventy-Six Trombones, Lida Rose, Marian the Librarian, Til There Was You, and The Wells Fargo Wagon. - SINGERS: Please bring sheet music of 16 bars for the accompanist.
- ALL: Bring comfortable shoes for a dance audition (we just need to see if you can follow simple dance instructions)
- Sides will be provided for readings.
Cast break-down: - Prof Harold Hill (Baritone): Often described as a likable Cad and Con Man. He is a bit of a lothario as well. He thinks he can win over Marian with ease.
- Marian Paroo (Soprano): A slightly stuffy librarian and piano teacher. She sees through Harold but is eventually swayed by what he has done for her brother Winthrop.
- Winthrop (Tenor) 7-14: Marian's lisping younger brother.
- Mrs. Paroo (Soprano) 40's-50's: Irish accented Mother of Marian and Winthrop.
- Mayor Shinn (non-singer) 40's-60's: A blustery politician with great comic timing.
- Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn (Soprano-Alto): Mayor Shinn's peacock of a wife and head of the Ladie's Auxiliary Society for the Classic Dance.
- Marcellus Washburn (Baritone and Dancer): Harold's old friend and former partner. He has given up his con man ways and is engaged to his boss's niece, Ethel Toffelmier.
- The Barbershop Quartet: Four bickering businessmen and School Board members: Olin Britt (Bass), Oliver Hix (Baritone), Ewart Dunlap (High Baritone), and Jacey Squires (Tenor).
- Pick-a-Little Ladies: The female counterparts to the Barber-shop quartet. They are the gossipy girlfriends who should be able to pull off haughty expressions; Alma Hix, Maud Dunlap, Mrs. Squires, and Ethel Toffelmier.
- Amaryllis: (Soprano) 7-14; Marian's young piano student.
- Tommy Djilas: (Singer and Dancer) 15-20; The town troublemaker who is secretly dating the Mayor's eldest daughter, Zaneeta.
- Zaneeta: (Singer-Dancer): 15-20; The Mayor's eldest daughter
- Constable Locke/Conductor: 40's-60's
- Charlie Cowell: 40's-60's; A traveling anvil salesman set to ex-pose Harold Hill as an imposter.
- Ensemble: Singers and Dancers of all ages are encouraged to come.
