Director Glen Albright is seeking 5 adults for MAURITIUS:

  • STERLING: Sterling is anywhere between 40 to 65ish years old. He is suspicious of everyone. He has a shady background and likes to bully and intimidate people. He has an obsession with the stamps which borders on the psycho-sexual. He ALWAYS gets what he wants. He will even beat up women. However, he is not a thug. He is intelligent and sophisticated. He has no time for "games." Like the other characters, he is working on an angle and he is very greedy. This role can be played by a man or woman.
  • PHILIP: He can be anywhere from 40 to 70 years old. He is the owner of the stamp and coin shop. He is not successful with buying/selling stamps. Any dreams he may have once had have long ago washed away. At times, he has false bravado, but no one buys it. He is a person who has been thrown aside by life. At this point, he expects nothing from life. During the course of the play, he will get "back in the game."
  • DENNIS: Dennis can be between the ages of 30 to 50. He is charming and a peacemaker. He likes to broker deals and he enjoys having money in his pocket. He is a rogue: part philosopher, part romantic. In the end, he will always do the thing. He is the type of person who tries to make everyone else around him feel fulfilled.
  • JACKIE: Jackie is the half-sister, who stayed with her mother, during the mother's illness and death. She is now driven to sell her grandfather's stamp collection. She wants the money it can bring in. She is smart, fierce, sarcastic and never retreating. Her age? 25 to 45ish. She will maneuver, counter and stall, as if she is playing a chess match. There is some physicality to the role.
  • MARY: Mary is the other half sister. She left home years earlier. She was not there when her mother took ill. She does not get angry or fly off into a rage often. She is sentimental. She wants to keep the stamp collection because, to her, it is a family heirloom. She tries to steer conversations with her half sister, away from the stamp collection. The age of this character can vary.

Sides will be provided. It is not necessary to make an appointment to audition.
