Monday Morning Art Workshops
with Lena Shiffman
WHEN: 3 Mondays: Jan 28, Watercolor; Feb 25, Acrylic; Mar 25, Oils. 10 AM – 2 PM.
TUITION: Member $75 per meeting; Non-member $85 per meeting.

Spend a few hours on a Monday morning with artist Lena Shiffman exploring watercolor, acrylic and oil painting. Working from still-life or pictures, the students work along with the instructor on the same subject. Students will learn proper use of material, as well as study proportion, value and color. Sign up for one workshop, two or all three. All levels welcome!

This class will cover basic techniques, color theory, value and elements of a good watercolor painting. There will be a short demonstration in every class. Students will learn a controlled wet-into-wet painting technique. Subjects will include glass, silver, flowers and landscapes. All levels welcome—beginners encouraged!

Pastel is a lively, colorful medium for creating visually breathtaking landscapes. In this class, learn to use pastels to express light, shadow, value, and color, while exploring composition, atmosphere, and aerial perspective. Students are shown how to use the pastel medium in various ways for a number of different effects. Bring sketches or photographs to work from. Learn what to extract from a photo and what not to use. A demonstration is given. All levels welcome—beginners encouraged!

Learn the “ins & outs” of drawing a variety of subject matter. Draw the Morris Museum building interiors to study lines and perspective. Practice with still-life to render the look of 3-d through value and shadow. Draw from life the last week observing a live model. All levels welcome – beginners encouraged!

● Part I: Technical: Sunday, Jan 27. 1-5 PM
TUITION: Member $80; Non-member $90.

Develop a basic understanding of your camera while exploring some key elements of photography. Learn how to work your digital camera properly so you can more fully enjoy making great images of your family and vacations. We will cover basic digital camera controls, lighting, exposure, color and composition. Bring your favorite camera and its instruction booklet.

● Part II: Pics in the Museum & Feedback: Sunday, Feb 3. 1-5 PM
TUITION: Member $80; Non-member $90.

Quick review of the basic camera information from Part I. Illustrated slide show on composition and lighting as it relates to your camera. Then, enjoy the unique hands-on opportunity of taking photographs in and around the museum, reinforcing your new knowledge. Receive instructive feedback. Bring camera, fresh batteries, and the instruction booklet.

Bead Stringing Jewelry Techniques
with Sandra Lupo
WHEN: Sunday, Feb 3. 1-4 PM
TUITION: Member $60; non-member $70. $25 Bead kit available from instructor.

In this workshop with jewelry artist Sandra Lupo, learn basic and beyond bead stringing to create a necklace or bracelet. Add a removable charm, to be decorated with Swarovski crystals and resin cabochons. Learn closure techniques using crimps and clasps for a completed piece of sparkling jewelry.

Tapestry—Painting in Yarn

WHEN: Saturday, Feb 16. 10 AM-1 PM
TUITION: Member $60; non-member $70. $15 supply fee to instructor at class.

Tapestry is a weaving method for creating a “painting” in yarn. Learn how to make a cartoon—a sketch—to follow after warping a small loom. Learn about warp and weft to turn your landscape, design, or other image into a painting.

Come Play…! Mixed Media
with Lisa Pressman
WHEN: Saturday, Feb 23. 10 AM-4 PM
TUITION: Member $100; non-member $115. $35 supply fee to instructor; short supply list.

Come play with artist Lisa Pressman in this mixed media workshop. Explore the endless possibilities of mark-making by drawing from all sides of the brain. We will be using drawing materials, ink, pastels, oil sticks, along with guided exercises to encourage imaginative and intuitive drawing as we experiment with traditional and non-traditional materials. Be prepared to explore and have a fun day. No previous art experience required!

TUITION: Member $80; non-member $90. $30 Bead and Wire kit available from instructor.

Create a wire-wrapped necklace with jewelry artist Sandra Lupo, using copper and silver-filled wire. Work with jasper and agate stones and utilize tools to create wire components that embellish and complete this interesting wire and bead creation.

Color Theory—Paper as Palette

With colors you can set a mood, attract attention, or make a statement. This class will explore basic color theory concepts and techniques for creating color schemes. We will be using magazine, newspapers and decorative papers and paper scraps to explore and create. Feel free to bring your own favorite papers. Endless possibilities—spectacular results!

Recycle and transform a discarded book into a one-of-a-kind work of art combining bookmaking, collage, journaling, paper craft, embellishing and more. Follow a theme, tell a story or obscure the book and create art not related to the book at all! Bring a discarded hard-cover book—fairly thick since we may be cutting niches in it. A very short supply list will be available upon registration.
