MORRIS MUSEUM OFFERS ART CLASSES FOR TEENS

Creative Lettering: Off-the-Wall Graffiti

Ages 11+

WHEN: 5 Saturdays: Jan 26, Feb 2, 9, 16, 23. 12-2 PM
WHERE: Morris Museum, 6 Normandy Heights Road, Morristown
TUITION: Member $110; Non-member $125. $10 supply fee to instructor on first day.

Learn the history and culture of graffiti art as seen around the world and explore your own use of imaginative letter art forms. Then have fun creating beautiful “letter art” and characters in scratchboard, on a T-shirt, and on the cover of your very own sketchbook.

Have fun using various papers to create both realistic and abstract artwork. We will learn how to make layered treasures with collage from magazines, photographs, newspaper, paint and pencil. Feel free to bring your own favorite papers. The possibilities are endless—the results are spectacular!

Oil Painting for Teens

Learn the basics of Oil Painting. Composition will be covered while working on a still-life. Make objects appear 3-dimensional using lights, mid-tones and shadows. Learn to mix colors while color theory is discussed. Beginners welcome and encouraged!

Water Color Painting

Students will investigate the range of possibilities that watercolor has to offer. Learn the basic techniques of watercolor, such as wet into wet, to create various effects and unique imagery. Learn about color and light, and how to control the edges to further advance your watercolor painting skills. Short demonstration given each class meeting, with plenty of time for students to practice, explore and create.

This class will cover basic techniques, color theory, value and elements of a good watercolor painting. Students will learn a controlled wet-into-wet painting technique. Subjects will include glass, silver, flowers and landscapes. Drawing skills are not essential to this course. There will be a short demonstration in every class. All levels welcome—beginners encouraged!

Figure Drawing for Teens

Learn to draw the human figure from life – beginning with quick, gesture sketches from short poses, and concluding with completed drawings from long poses. You will learn proportions and how to achieve the correct relationship between the parts of the body, using guides like plumb-lines and negative spaces. Experience the chance to draw many types of figures in a nurturing, non-competitive environment. Clothed model.
