FREE FIRST THURSDAY NIGHT

The Montclair Art Museum invites you to enjoy a night out at the Museum the first Thursday of the month.*

Enjoy late hours, free admission, a full-service bar and dynamic programming.

  • Full-service bar with special First Thursday Night prices provided by Egan & Sons. Enjoy signature cocktails, light fare, and a specialty drink every month. Please note that the bar is cash only.
  • Tours of Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics will be offered every hour on the half hour (5:30 PM, 6:30 PM, 7:30PM).
  • Live music provided by the Montclair State John J. Cali School of Music Jazz Studies Program, led by saxophonist Dan Braden. This month's performance will feature Jonathan Greenberg (alto saxophone), Robert Butkowski (guitar), Taylor Clifford (bass), Max Adler (drums), and Tim Egan (tenor saxophone).
  • Special performances will also be presented by Passing Notes, Montclair High School's a cappella group, at 7 PM and 8 PM
  • MAM is Reading! Book Club: Lilith’s Brood, by Octavia Butler, 7 PM, Free, please RSVP to mkelshaw@montclairartmuseum.org. In conjunction with MAM’s current exhibition Saya Woolfalk: The Empathics (the second exhibition in the New Directions series), MAM’s Book Club will discuss Lilith’s Brood. This acclaimed trilogy by multiple Hugo and Nebula award–winner Octavia E. Butler is presented for the first time in one volume. Lilith’s Brood is a profoundly evocative, sensual, and disturbing epic of human transformation.
  • The Store at MAM welcomes Meghan Riley for an Artist’s Trunk Sale, featuring new collections and the opportunity to meet the artist.
MAM encourages Free First Thursday Night visitors to participate in their 2013 New Directions contemporary art exhibition. The third exhibition in this series (opening Fall 2013) will feature acclaimed artist Jean Shin, who creates sculptures and installations using materials gathered from the communities in which she works. Bring metal flatware (forks, knives, spoons, serving utensils, etc.) to donate to her project at this Free First Thursday Night and you'll be entered into a raffle for a MAM Contemporaries membership! Earn one raffle ticket for every piece of flatware.
