DANCE CONSERVATORY AT CENTENARY TO HOLD SPECIAL DANCE CLASSES

state-of-the-art facilities of the new Lackland Center of Centenary College, 715 Grand Ave., Hackettstown
TUITION: 1 class per week $130.00, 2 classes per week $195.00 and 3 classes per week $275.00. Register before January 6th and receive a 15% discount on class. Classes that meet twice a week (Modern and Ballet) are the single class price. The Centenary Stage Company will offer a series of special dance classes for the public this winter and spring, with a mission to provide high-quality training without the requirements of a recital. All courses are taught by Centenary College Dance Faculty. Students must be 11 years old to participate.

The Conservatory of Dance at Centenary College provides the community with affordable, high- quality dance classes, designed to introduce dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in the world of dance and theatre.   The program allows dancers, middle school to adult, to train on a collegiate level without the pressure of financial strains.  The classes being offered in the Conservatory this Spring Semester are the following:

Beginner Dance (Middle School-Adult)
WHEN: Monday 4:00 PM–5:10 PM
 
So you think you can’t dance? Well come to this class and learn the joy of dance in a fun supportive environment.   This class will take you through the basics of ballet, modern and jazz and much more!

Theatre Dance (High School-Adult)
WHEN: Tuesday/Thursday 2:00 PM-3:10 PM

A combination of different styles of Musical Theatre dance.  Emphasis will be placed on executing the different genres of dance used in this style, musicality, acting, interpretation of character, as well as class ensemble work.

Modern I and II (Middle School-Adult)
WHEN: Tuesday 4:00 PM–5:20 PM
A combination of different modern dance techniques for the beginner to advanced beginner dancer as well as those wishing to refresh their skills in modern dance.  Vocabulary will be broken down and emphasis will be placed on understanding proper placement, coordination, musicality and the joy of moving the body in space.

Ballet I and II Tuesday (Middle School-Adult)
WHEN: 5:30 PM-6:40 PM

For the beginner student who wishes to learn and work slowly on the fundamentals of Classical Ballet. Vocabulary will be broken down and emphasis will be placed on understanding proper placement, coordination, musicality and the joy of moving the body in space.  Ballet II offers the advanced student a more challenging warm up, choreography, and center floor work.  Knowledge of ballet vocabulary, proper body alignment, and technique are suggested for this level.

Jazz I (High School-Adult)
WHEN: Tuesday 7:00 PM – 8:10 PM
 
Beginner to advanced beginner level jazz course designed to introduce the student to the technical fundamentals of Contemporary  Jazz dance. The class will focus on building a dance vocabulary which will bring the dance student to the next level. The student will be introduced to the various styles and techniques of the jazz world.

Beginner Ballroom (High School-Adult)
WHEN: Thursday 4:00 PM-5:10 PM
 
Learn the elements of ballroom and Latin dance in this introductory course.  Basic partnering patterns will be introduced for the Rumba, Cha- Cha, Salsa and Swing Dance.
