Inspired by true events, Bubba opens in the Deep South and through the use of slides, the audience is taken on a journey into the good-ole-days of Huntsville, Alabama. The play then episodically moves from one year to another as the audience learns about Walker's father, Joe Walker. A survivor of polio at age 2, the play explores his incarceration for embezzling $181,000 from the probate judge less than 9 months after marrying Walker's mother, his need to be well-liked, and his discovery that the polio has returned. Walker's strained relationship with his father is revealed through multiple characters: everything from a one-eyed womanizing party animal to Aunt B, the cancer-ridden, chain-smoking, keeper of the secrets. A combination of song, dance, and heart wrenching honesty, the play is my journey to examine his life and mysterious death.
