The Mason Gross Extension Division, in partnership with New Jersey Performing Arts Center, presents You Need To Be On Broadway: The One-Day Musical Theater Intensive at Mason Gross School of the Arts, on the Douglass Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, in New Brunswick.

Prepare for a day of workshops led by distinguished leaders in the performing arts. Check out our exciting classes and instructors below:

  • Auditioning for Musical Theater with Dale Brown, Tara Rubin Casting (Broadway: Ghost: The Musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Jesus Christ Superstar, Billy Elliot, The Little Mermaid). Discover the secrets of casting a Broadway show, and learn how you can ace your next audition! Don't miss your opportunity to have Dale Brown, one of the top casting directors in musical theater, answer your questions during this class. (A select group of students will get to perform.)
  • Contemporary Broadway Jazz (Dance) with Daisy Hobbs, Memphis: The Musical (First National Tour),Camelot, and Disney's Aladdin. Learn Broadway choreography from Daisy Hobbs, who performed Felicia (the female lead) on the first national tour of the Tony Award-winning musical Memphis.
  • The Dynamics of Singing with Jenne Carey, Mason Gross Extension Division Faculty and Royal Conservatory Silver Award Medalist. Jenne Carey instructs on vocal health while teaching you a popular Broadway selection! You're going to love her practical approach to vocal improvement.
  • Acting the Song (Acting) with New Jersey Performing Arts Center Faculty. Join the faculty of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center for a stimulating course on "Acting the Song". In this class, learn how to deconstruct your music so the lyrics have life. Remember: musical theater isn't just about hitting the high and low notes! Performers have to act the song!
