MONTCLAIR OPERETTA CLUB SEEKS ACTORS FOR VENERABLE MUSICAL TO OPEN 88TH SEASON

WHEN: Open auditions for children will be held on Thursday, August 30, at 7 PM and again on Sunday, September 9, at 2 PM. Auditions for adults will be held on Friday, August 31, at 7 PM and Sunday, September 9, at 1 PM. Callbacks will be held Tuesday, September 11, by appointment.

The Montclair Operetta Club, one of the country’s oldest continuously-operating community theaters, beginning its 88th season, announces open auditions for its upcoming production of Oliver!.

The story of the children is told through songs such as Food, Glorious Food, I’d Do Anything and the well-known Consider Yourself.

Roles include Oliver, Mr. Bumble, the Artful Dodger and more. M.O.C. plans a large ensemble of children for the workhouse in addition to the adult principals. A list of characters is available on the Club’s website – www.mocmusicals.org.

Auditions consist of singing, reading and movement. All roles are open. There is no pay.

Those who wish to audition are asked to bring a photo and a resume, as well as sheet music for a a song (16 to 32 bars) in the proper key for a legitimate musical theatre song in the character of the show; an accompanist will be provided.

  • Oliver Twist: A workhouse boy of about 13 years of age
  • Mr. Bumble: A large, pompous man of 55
  • Widow Corney: Workhouse mistress, sharp-tongued, domineering
  • Noah Claypole: Undertaker's pimply apprentice
  • Mr. Sowerberry: The Undertaker
  • Mrs. Sowerberry: The Undertaker's overseer
  • Charlotte: Their sluttish daughter
  • Artful Dodger: Fagin's brightest pupil
  • Fagin: An elderly receiver - runs a training academy for pickpockets
  • Nancy: Graduate of Fagin's academy; Bill's doxy
  • Charles Bates: Boy in Fagin's establishment
  • Bet: 13-year-old lass in Fagin's establishment
  • Old Sally: A pauper
  • Old Lady
  • Bill Sykes: A villain in his prime
  • Mrs. Bedwin: The Brownlows' housekeeper
  • Mr. Brownlow: An old gentleman of wealth and breeding
  • Dr. Grimwig: A doctor
  • Ensemble: Bow Street Runners, Charman, workhouse children, street vendors, etc.

Show dates are November 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 & 11 at the Westminster Arts Center at Bloomfield College.
