I saw this show at 4th Wall Theatre several seasons ago. It is a wonderful dramatization of the beloved novel by Louisa May Alcott. You know that I am a proponent of taking children to the theater early (and I don’t mean Broadway with its sky-high prices); this would make a terrific outing for a grandmother and granddaughter! Besides, the performers are local teens!

Based on Louisa May Alcott's classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, the play focuses on the four March sisters—brassy, tomboy-like, aspiring writer Jo; romantic Meg; pretentious Amy; and kind-hearted Beth—and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Intercut with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio.
The production is the concluding showcase for the three-week musical theater training program for local teenagers at the Allegra School of Performing Arts in Hillsborough. The show features a cast of 12 talented young artists, a 19-person student orchestra, and a company of experienced high school students comprise the stage crew.
