    The Dirty Urchins

    July 11 at 7:30 PM
    Parker Press Park

People often ask the Urchins how they would describe their sound. Start with the Dylan-infused Scottish-folk roots of Freddie, add David's love of rhythm n' blues and country, some of Julia's raucous, old-school lilt, fold in Bennett's indelible sense of groove, and then sprinkle with a jazz sensibility. Serve with a side of humor, and there it is. Rock 'n' folk, perhaps?

Runa draws on the diverse musical backgrounds of its band members and brings a contemporary and refreshing experience to traditional and more recently composed Celtic material. Through their repertoire of both highly energetic and graceful, acoustic melodies, along with their fusion of music from Ireland, Scotland, the Shetland Islands, Canada and the United States, this vocal and instrumental ensemble gives its arrangements of traditional songs and tunes a fresh sound.
