Guler Ugur was raised in a Turkish ghetto in Germany. She studied photography in Dortmund and became an assistant to Eli Reed of Magnum Photos in NYC. Her travels have brought her to Brazil, Peru, Colombia, India, Israel, Portugal and other places where she always connected with children and woman.

“I grew up in a Turkish culture where woman and children were my whole world,” says Ms. Ugur. “But living in NYC and traveling to exciting places around the globe has opened me to experiences beyond my expectation. I studied Judaism and eventually converted. Photographing my first Bat Mitzvah was the beginning of a wonderful journey that led me to create what I call photo essays—stories about families told in images.

“I strive to capture ephemeral moments that allow me to capture emotions that sometimes last only for an instant. It is in those moments that we can see the unseen, those fleeting moments in time and life, and my goal is to capture them forever.”

Gallery hours are Monday – Thursday, 9 AM – 10 PM; Friday and Sunday, 9 AM – 5 PM; closed Saturday and Jewish holidays.
