Swingadelic delivers the traditional big band music of Ellington, Basie and Sinatra, mixed with the soulful sounds of Ray Charles, as well as sophisticated, classic standards a la George Gershwin and Cole Porter.  In a new venture at CSC this summer, a special Dance Floor area will also be available for this performance for patrons motivated to get up and dance to the beat.

A favorite at Lincoln Center’s Midsummer Night’s Swing,  Swingadelic formed in 1998 as the neo-swing movement was just gaining momentum, enchanting its audiences with a “feel-good range of offerings,  from slow, steamy blues and foot-stomping swing [Star Ledger].”    The band has played venues up and down the eastern seaboard,  and their numerous albums include their newest release “The Other Duke,” a valentine to the music of Duke Pearson, a pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader of the 60‘s and 70‘s who was very influential in shaping the “hard bop” sound of Blue Note Records.

David Strange of Musichead Magazine  raves about Swingadelic, “...these groovin' cats craft and balance reverence, chops and a big ole dash of fun into an original gumbo of jump blues, rockin' rhythms, jazz and soul. Did I mention fun?.. Jump on this one!”

The bandleader and bassist of Swingadelic is Dave Post, co-owner of  New Jersey’s  premiere rock n roll nightclub, Maxwell's in Hoboken.  Other band-members include Southside Johnny trombonist and vocalist Neal Pawley, Julliard grad student Rob Edwards and drummer Paul Pizzuti, who recently played with Harry Connick on a Broadway production of The Pajama Game. Another trombone player is Rob Susman (Riverdale). The sax section consists of Audrey Welber/alto (East Brunswick), Paul Carlon/tenor (Manhattan) and John DiSanto/baritone (New Brunswick).  The trumpets feature Carlos Francis (East Orange) and Grammy nominee Albert Leusink, a native of Netherlands, now residing in Queens. In addition to Post &  Pizzuti, the rhythm section features Boo Reiners (Union City) who won a Grammy with The Klezmatics, and the piano and vocals of Emmy Award winner John Bauers, who lives in Jersey City.

The  CSC Box office is located in the Lackland Center, on the campus of Centenary College, at 715 Grand Ave.   Box office hours are 1-5 PM Monday through Friday, and 2 hours prior to each performance.

Other upcoming events in the CSC 2012 Summer Series include the Cab Calloway Orchestra (July 14),  Sarah Borges in concert (July 21), Smokey Joes’ Café ( July 26-29) and Beatlemania (Aug 4).
