Kids and teens, ages 10-17, with an interest in theater can enjoy a fabulous experience this summer in new Cabaret workshop at the JCC School of Performing Arts. Participants will have the opportunity to explore solo and small group si2nging or stand-up and sketch comedy.

Participants will develop and showcase their performance skills as cabaret entertainers on a professional level. Solo, small group and ensemble cabaret singing will be stressed, as well as short comic scene work. Stand-up and sketch comedy will be taught by a stand-up comedian from the Upright Citizens Brigade in NYC, who will assist students in writing clever routines.

Students will learn new skills and create and rehearse their numbers and acts for the final show. They will also attend mini-workshops in acting, comedy-improv and vocal skills taught by a professional staff from New York and JCC Performing Arts, including Lotte Porch, Amelia DeMayo, Jesse Vandenbergh, Leora Haberfield, and Glenn Gordon. They will then end the day with a swim at the JCC Olympic–sized outdoor pool from 3:30-4:30 PM.

The two-week workshop will culminate in several performances, including Friday, July 20, 5:30 PM, at the Broadway Comedy Club on 53rd St in NYC and a Sunday performance, July 22, at the JCC’s Eric Brown Theater.
