Jazz pianist Gilberto “Pulpo” Colon Jr. and his band Ensalada de Pulpo will perform at Woodbridge’s Barron Arts Center as part of the Latin Fusion: Jersey Style Concert Series.

In the midst of NJ’s seasoned Latin bands, Ensalada de Pulpo has continued to stir crowds with their infectious swing. Led by the esteemed pianist Gilberto Colon Jr. affectionately known as “Pulpo” Ensalada de Pulpo has remained true to its name. The band is a mixture of different musical elements that help create its melodic magic. As a result, the band is able to reach a multitude of audiences that may crave a full “Salsa Orquesta” or others that may prefer an all-American jazzy rhythm section.

Whether enhancing the vocals or leading the melody, Pulpo’s work on the piano has long been recognized as one of the best in Latin Music. He is credited for playing with all three of the “Big 3”; The Tito Puente Orchestra, The Tito Rodriguez Orchestra, and The Machito Orchestra. Pulpo credits his experiences with the “Big 3” as “the break that really took my playing to the  next level.” Most recently, Pulpo is coming off the successful release of his debut album “Hot Bread” awarded Best Latin Album at the 2008
Independent Music Awards.
