Founded by Jody Sperling in 2000, Time Lapse Dance is a modern dance company based in NYC that presents visual-kinetic theatre fusing experimental dance, circus arts and mesmerizing fabric-and-light spectacles. Dances reimagining the swirling, sculptural style of Loie Fuller form a core of the repertory. Other works draw on genres including aerial dance, hula-hooping stilt-walking, partner acrobatics, vaudeville and more. As Time Lapse Dance envisions a true integration of choreography, music and design, the company consists in a core roster of outstanding collaborative artists who contribute to each project.

Jody Sperling is the Founder and Artistic Director of Time Lapse Dance. A dancer, choreographer and dance scholar based in New York City, Sperling has gained an international reputation as an expert on Loie Fuller and is the foremost contemporary interpreter of Fuller’s style. In the past decade, Sperling has created more than 30 works, including many solo and group works that pay homage to Fuller, as well as others that fuse modern dance and circus arts. Sperling has taught lectured and/or performed in the U.S., Canada, France, India, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Russia and Scotland.

“Jody Sperling was last at the arts center back in 2007 and we are thrilled to have her return,” says Arts Center Managing Director Greg Allen. “The performance her company gives is like nothing I’ve ever seen. A visual spectacular that stirs emotion in the audience from the beauty of the images created as well as the talent of the troupe.”
