This popular, all-male a cappella group from Yeshiva University has been taking the country by storm, drawing international attention for its eclectic range of Jewish, American and Israeli songs that often combine Jewish liturgy set to the tunes of contemporary musical artists.

Delighting audiences with the traditional and secular wisdom they bring to their music, the Maccabeats bring their energy, style and spirit to the intimate JCC setting, where they will give an all-out performance to music lovers of all ages. The concert has been underwritten so that all proceeds can benefit programs for senior adults at the JCC.

The Maccabeats have headlined in concert halls across the country, including Madison Square Garden; have generated more than six million hits on YouTube; and performed at the White House last spring at a reception in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month, where President Obama personally thanked them for "their outstanding performance." Hit songs include Hanukkah, Candlelight, Lecha Dodi, and Dynamite. Their first album, Voices from the Heights, was released in 2010. They have also released a number of music videos including Purim Song, Book of Good Life and most recently, Miracle.

“We are delighted to feature the Maccabeats at the JCC,” says Deb Turitz, JCC Senior Adult Director. “They are a major icon in the music world at the moment, writing songs that encourage audiences, especially our youth, to embrace Jewish ideas and values. We expect a huge turnout, and the icing on the cake is that fact that all ticket sales will support programs for senior adults in our community who are truly in need.”

The Senior Adult Department at the JCC brings valuable social, educational and recreational programming to senior adults in our community designed to enhance their quality of life and to prevent their becoming isolated in the community. The department features more that 100 programs and university level courses for active retirees; 90 programs a month for Senior Center Plus (a social club for people 75 years and older); The Kaplen Adult Reach Center for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related forms of dementia; a Computer Learning Center; door to door, round trip transportation in handicapped accessible vehicles; nutritious, hot Kosher lunches; holiday celebrations; intergenerational programs; horticulture, pet therapy; cultural events; music, exercise, parties, outings and more—all offered by a highly trained compassionate staff with a corps of volunteers.
