The New Jersey School of Dramatic Arts is excited to announce the return of their highly successful, new cabaret series: Lyrics and Laughter—An Evening of Comedy & Song.
The night will start with performances by veteran singers who hail from New York and New Jersey, with credits ranging from Off-Broadway to local professional theaters and will be followed by a performance by the On The Spot improv comedy troupe. A pre-show wine and cheese reception will also be offered.
The singers include New Jersey residents: Marion Markham has been in the Off Broadway production of Kiss Me Quick at Musical Theatre Works and has played Peter Pan at the Fulton Opera House as well as Velma in the Colonial Theatre production of Chicago. Noreen Hughes has been seen at New Jersey's very own Surflight Theatre and at the Shawnee Playhouse in Pirates of Penzance and Phantom of the Opera. Local New Jersey artist Omie Trouvere has been singing throughout the tri-state area for years.
On The Spot is NJSDA's second improv troupe and has been making New Jersey audiences laugh since 2007. Their shows are based entirely on audience suggestions.
"The only thing better than having a great idea, is watching it come to life right before your eyes," says troupe director Ted Wrigley. Troupe members include Mick Gyure and Rich McDonald of West Orange, Katie Rose of Nutley, Jennifer Jones of Edison, Joe Carney of Garwood, Matthew Hopkins of Elmwood Park and Jackie Pereda of Morganville.
