DAY OF DANCE

“Day of Dance” will be first event in an initiative which also includes a week-long “Dance Fest” at the Centenary Stage Company in late March, which kicks off with a performance by the incomparable 9-time Tony Award winner Tommy Tune.
Offered as free event to provide opportunities to regional dancers, Day of Dance on February 10 will feature classes taught by guest artist Carolyn Dorfman, founder and artistic director of the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company. Dorfman has been hailed as a Distinguished Artist and has won six Choreography Fellowships from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA), in additional to other choreography honors. A master teacher, she is a guest artist/choreographer/teacher at major universities in the U.S. and has served on the guest faculty at the Limón Institute in New York. Since founding her Company, she has created more than 60 works for her 11 member ensemble, which appears at major theaters, dance festivals, universities and schools regionally, nationally and internationally and is lauded for its exceptional arts education and community programming.
Day of Dance will also include additional classes in Contemporary and Musical Theater Dance, which will be taught by dance faculty from Centenary College. The day will culminate with a special “talk-back” with the artists, including Dorfman and members of her company .
Dorfman returns to Centenary where she was a guest artist the 2011 Summer Dance Intensive at Centenary. She is slated to return again for a four-day Dance Intensive this summer, July 9th – 12th 2012.
DANCE FEST
WHEN: March 24 thru April 1
WHERE: The Sitnik stage in the Lackland Center
Dance Fest will feature the dance talents of Tommy Tune, Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company, Nai – Ni Chen, Lustig Dance Theater and Moe-tion Dance on the Sitnick stage in the Lackland Center. During the festival, members of the community can partake in various classes ranging in style from the popular dance exercise sensation Zumba Dance to a workshop taught by members of the Nai –Ni Chen Dance Company. All workshops require reservations and a $10 donation, which is deducted from the price of a ticket to any of the dance concerts, with the exception of Tommy Tune.

VINYASA YOGA

Come experience the joy of yoga in the class. This class will focus on exercise to strengthen turn out, increase flexibility and counterbalance the rigorous training encountered by the dancer.
MODERN DANCE CLASS
THURSDAY MARCH 29, 5:20 PM- 6:30 PM
Experience the joy of movement in this beginner modern dance. A combination of different Modern Techniques will be introduced and emphasis will be placed on musicality and the joy of moving the body through space.
NAI –NI CHEN DANCE COMPANY
SATURDAY MARCH 31, 11-12:30 PM
Lead by member of the company participants will be introduced to the Repertory Work of The Nai –Ni Chen Dance Company . For the Advanced beginner to Advanced dance studio
ZUMBA
SUNDAY APRIL 1, 12noon – 1 PM
Come experience the latest fitness dance craze taught by Centenary College alumna Megan Corbitt. Combining the styles of African, Brazilian and hip –hop dance, this fast-paced , exhilarating dance style will surely get your feet moving and your heart pumping.
Yoga workshop – FREE
All other workshops are $10 which is may be deducted from the price of a ticket* to dance week performances (* not applicable to the performances of Tommy Tune).
