To encourage open and honest dialogues on difficult topics, the Youth Services Department at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is launching a Mother daughter book club.

The goal of this unique book club is to provide a safe environment for mothers and daughters to openly discuss difficult and important teen topics such as sex, drugs, eating disorders, cutting and more.

“We are looking to create an open forum to discuss these issues openly and objectively,” says Judi Nahary, Director of Youth Services at the JCC. “Our hope is to spark more personal discussions at home and allow for stronger mother-daughter bonds. We also hope to educate teens and their mothers about pertinent psychological and social factors surrounding these difficult topics so they become more knowledgeable and prepared to address and understand them.”

A licensed Clinical Social Worker will lead the group, provide psychological and social information relating to the topics being addressed, and provide additional resources for further study and discussion.
