Major Artists Series Longtime friends Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Veronica's Closet, Dirty Blonde) and Mo Gaffney (Mad About You, Happy Texas, Absolutely Fabulous) created and starred in the Obie Award winning Off-Broadway production Parallel Lives, which propelled each of them to stardom and critical acclaim. Two award winning HBO specials followed. Their newest Off-Broadway show Afterbirth sold out its six week limited run before the first performance. With great insight, wit and compassion, Kathy and Mo bring a feminist perspective to an incredible variety of male and female characters of all ages in this review of their best work. The Merck Series Laura Shapiro once wrote in Newsweek, "Short course in modern dance: in the beginning there was Martha Graham, who changed the face of an art form and discovered a new world. Then there was Merce Cunningham, who stripped away the externals and showed us the heart of movement. And then there was Paul Taylor, who let the sun shine in." The Paul Taylor Dance Company is presented as a part of The Merck Series, made possible for twenty seasons through the generosity of the Merck Company Foundation. Tuesdays With Stories SOUTHERN VOICES In our first multi-book presentation, actors will portray portions of each novel verbatim by a solo actor with a discussion with the audience at the conclusion. Novels include: As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner revolves around a grim yet darkly humorous pilgrimage; Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston is about a proud, independent black woman's quest for identity, a journey that takes her back to her roots; To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee tells of Scout and Jem's childhood and how a series of events shook their innocence and taught them about human nature. NEW: Club 28 The David Leonhardt Trio, having appeared internationally with some of the biggest names in jazz, is a critically acclaimed acoustic ensemble that plays a blend of mainstream and modern jazz. The group relies on creative improvisation, playing both jazz standards and originals for an exciting and entertaining evening of music. Join us as we open a new series with a little Christmas from Dave's trio. Leonhardt relies on immaculate timing as his hands float over the keyboard like a hushed breeze. —EASTON EXPRESS TIMES
