INDULGE YOUR INNER MINSTREL @ THE FOLK PROJECT!

Open Stage MC Scooter FergusonMINSTREL OPEN STAGE

The Minstrel's Open Stage is your chance to make music on the Folk Project’s stage. This welcoming and supportive open stage is run by MC Scooter Ferguson. Performers sign up for a 15-minute performance. Many Minstrel opening acts are selected from their open stages. (Left: Open Stage Host, Scooter Fe)

WHERE: The Minstrel Open Stage at the Morristown Unitarian Fellowship.
WHEN: Open Stages are generally 2nd Fridays of the month, but check The Minstrel Acoustic Concert Series for any schedule changes.

Contact Scooter with questions and comments about Open Stage.

HOW TO GET TO PERFORM AT THE MINSTREL'S OPEN STAGE:

  • There are 13 available 15-minute performance slots starting at 8:00 PM.

  • Starting Saturday, one week before the Open Stage, you can request a performance slot by e-mail  or phone 973.335.9489.  Please call at polite hours.

  • The first six requests received will get a Guaranteed Performance Slot, and the next two will get alternate status in case of no-shows. You will be notified by return call or e-mail if you are among the first six.

  • The first person to reserve will get first choice of time slots (not necessarily the first slot), and the next five will follow in succession of choice.

  • The next choice will go to a performer who volunteers to staff at the Minstrel on the night of the Open Stage. To get that slot, contact our Volunteer Chair by e-mail.

  • The remaining 6 time slots will be chosen by lottery from among all the remaining performers on site on the evening of the Open Stage.

  • No one who performed at the Minstrel's previous Open Stage will be permitted a Guaranteed Performance Slot (one of the first six.) But you still can enter the lottery.

  • You must be on site at 7:30 PM on the evening of the Open Stage to claim your Guaranteed Performance Slot, or by 7:45 PM to be in the lottery for the remaining 6 slots.

All that being said, there is a tradition among the Open Stage regulars to give up one of their songs to someone who got left out. The Folk Project encourages that courtesy.
