Insight from the Playwright:
When most people think about Harriet Tubman, they think of a noble Underground Railroad leader whose name came up during dry history lessons in 5th grade. Karen Jones Meadows' one-woman show wants to change that.

"This is the Harriet you don't know about. She had a very active romantic life, that's always the first thing I mention," says Jones Meadows with a mischievous smile. "She was a spy, she designed battles during the Civil War, and she led troops."

During the two hour show, Jones Meadows plays more than thirty characters, including John Brown, William Still, Harriet's parents, and Harriet herself from ages 6 to 93. It has been performed in 27 states, Tortola, and the British and American Virgin Islands.

"It's high energy, it's fun, and it's a play about freedom, not slavery," Jones Meadows says, "It's about all kinds of freedom."
