WEST ORANGE LIBRARY EVENTS FOR DECEMBER

Winter Storytimes for Children
Sign-ups begin Tuesday, December 21

Need an antidote for cabin fever? Well, bundle up the kids and head over to the Library. Enjoy stories with your children and maybe meet some new friends! It's just what the doctor ordered!

Our six-week winter storytime series begins on January 10. Storytimes feature books, songs, puppets and rhymes to help develop children's language and listening skills in a fun atmosphere. "Babies and Books" is for children under age 2, "Terrific Toddlers" is for ages 2 to 3 1/2, and "Preschool Page Turners" is for ages 3 1/2 – 5. "Eager Readers" for ages 5 – 9 includes games and crafts, along with more complex stories. Registration is required and begins on Tuesday, December 21. Sign up online for the sessions you'd like to attend.

Teen Nights at the Library
Mondays at 7 PM
Monday nights are Teen Nights at the Library! If you are in grades 6-12, you can participate in fun activities every Monday from 7-8:30 PM. Activities range from making sock puppets to playing Mario Kart!

  • December 6 - Teen Game Night
  • December 13 - Movie Night
  • December 20 - Twilight vs. Harry Potter Party (trivia, games, and snacks)
  • December 27 - Teen Game Night

Advance registration is required for all programs. Sign up online!

Bilingual Family Storytime
Drop by the Library to listen to stories told in English and Spanish. Then, join in a fun bilingual sing-along. All ages are welcome.  Registration is not required—just drop in! Mondays, December 6, 13 and 20 at 4 PM.
While you're at the Library, check out the new collection of books in Spanish for children and adults.

Library Giving Tree
Give a book to a child in need with the Library's Giving Tree Project. The "Giving Tree" is located inside the Library. Its branches are decorated with paper gingerbread children. Each gingerbread child is marked with an age. Pick a gingerbread girl or boy from the Giving Tree. Then, buy a book for a boy or girl of that age. (We have a list of recommendations to help you.) Wrap your book, using the gingerbread child as a gift tag, and bring it back to the Library. We'll distribute the books to children through the West Orange Social Services Department. For more information, call the Children's Department at 973.736.0198.
