WHERE:
Two River Theater Company, 21 Bridge Avenue, Red Bank

In partnership with New York University’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, a dozen composers and lyricists will showcase original songs for the musical theater.

These songs, all written by graduates or faculty of NYU’s acclaimed master’s degree program, will be performed by musical theater talent including B.D. Wong, a Tony Award winner for M. Butterfly and star of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Among the other singers featured in the Cabaret are Sandy Binion and Sally Wilfert, previously seen on stage together in the William Finn revue, Make Me a Song

Other songwriting talents who will offer new songs are composer/lyricists Kirsten Childs (The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin) and Joe Iconis (winner of the Jonathan Larson Award, the Ed Kleban Award and a Backstage Bistro Award). The team of lyricist Nathan Tysen and composer Chris Miller will perform from their musical The Mysteries of Harris Burdick.

The Cabaret is a prelude to new artistic programming in Two River’s intimate second performance space, the Marion Huber Theater, under the leadership of the company’s new Artistic Director, John Dias.

In 2011, Two River will kick off a six-month festival of new plays and original musicals, which will be developed during residencies culminating in staged readings and workshops that are free and open to the public.  Additional information, including participating artists and dates, will be announced early next year.
