A prolific piano virtuoso, Mixon was born in Harlem and was influenced early in life by performances his grandfather took him to see at the Apollo Theater.  A student of legendary Sir Roland Hanna, by the age of 17 Mixon was invited to play for Sam Brown and Patti Labelle and, and shortly thereafter was performing with the likes of Betty Carter, Art Blakey and Charles Mingus.  Throughout his career he has performed with countless stars of the music world, including Lionel Hampton, Eubie Blake, Houston Person, and Lou Rawls, as well as performing with Savion Glover at the 2002 Olympics. Recently Mixon was honored as a “legendary pianist” by the Jazz Museum of Harlem, and he has just completed his new CD entitled On My Way.

Performing with Mixon will be Bryce Sebastien on bass and Chuck Ferruggia on drums. Boasting a vast diversity of experience, Ferruggia has worked with such luminaries as Tito Puente, Arnie Lawrence, Junior Mance and Frank Vignola. Sebastian is a former member of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, and has worked with a host of  great musicians, including Duke Jordan, John Stubblefield, and Marvin “Smitty” Smith.

Spearheaded by CSC Board Chairman, Ed Coyne,  the “Piano in the Parlour” series is held in the historic, turn-of-the-century Grace Memorial Parlours at Centenary College. The series has been made possible in part through generous donations made by CSC patrons to restore the 100-year old Steinway grand piano. Matching funds for restoration came from the Van Winkle Trust for the maintenance of musical instruments at Centenary College, and local sponsor Paul Simone and Vienna Piano for donation of the mini-stage for piano presentations.

The Piano in the Parlour series at the Centenary Stage Company is made possible through the support of  Coyne Enterprises,  the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation, The NJ State Council on the Arts, and CSC members and sponsors, with additional support from WNRJ Radio and WNTI Radio.
