THE STROLLERS ANNOUNCE AUDITIONS FOR FALL MUSICAL

The Strollers of Maplewood are one of my favorite community theaters. They have been around forever—okay, 78 years—and mount some terrific productions. And Maplewood is a restaurant town, so going to a Strollers' show can be a real night out, whether it be with your friends or family. If you can sing, dance or act, this notice below is for you.)

The Strollers of Maplewood are please to announce auditions for their fall musical, The Brain from Planet X by Bruce Kimmell & David Wechter. This musical is a parody of Science Fiction movies of the 1950's.

WHEN: Monday, August 30, and Tuesday, August 31, at 7:30 PM
WHERE: Burgdorff Center for the Performing Arts, 10 Durand Rd, Maplewood

There will be callbacks on Thursday, September 2.

Performance dates are November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 19, and 20. Performances are at 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, 2 PM on Sundays

It is not necessary to schedule an audition; simply come to the theatre on one of the audition nights. Those auditioning are asked to prepare 16 bars of a song which highlights your ability. Please bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. There will also be script readings, and everyone will be required to dance a short routine. Roles are listed below.


The musical will have book and music direction by Cynthia Ross, choreography by Carol Cornicelli and Alistair Williams, and will be produced by Kate McNally.

The following is a list of Characters and their descriptions:
  • Narrator: baritone, any age, narrates the show. Part doubles with Professor Leder
  • Professor Leder: baritone, Joyce's father, aged professor. Doubles with Narrator.
  • Fred Buson: 30–45, baritone, Joyce's husband, Donna's father, a fine, upstanding scientist & inventor.
  • Joyce Buson: 30–45, mezzo, Fred's wife, Donna's mother, happy, cheerful suburban housewife.
  • Donna Buson: 18, mezzo, Fred & Joyce's daughter, a good girl who wants to be bad.
  • Rod: 18, not much singing, Donna's boyfriend, a beat poet.
  • General Mills: 40–60, not much singing, buffoon-like, Army type.
  • Private Partz: any age, non-singing, non-speaking, aide to the General.
  • Zubrick: 25–50, baritone, male alien, immaculately groomed, extremely prissy & proper.
  • Yoni: 25–40, mezzo, female alien, sexy and frustrated.
  • The Brain: any age, baritone, the alien leader.
  • Ensemble: townspeople, reporters, alien assistants, narrator assistants.
Please note that The Strollers is a membership company and performers are expected to join. Dues of $35 include 1 ticket to each of our 3 main stage shows (a $52 value) and the opportunity to participate in our monthly membership meetings.
