Jonathan Larson's rock musical updating of Puccini's La Bohème, Rent ran on Broadway for 12 years and 5,100 performances, making it the eighth-longest-running Broadway show. Larson's version recasts Bohemia as modern-day New York City and confronts the AIDs epidemic in harrowing fashion.
The New Jersey Youth Theatre and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center's Summer Musical Program offers a new production of Rent, running from July 16–25 at NJPAC, 1 Center Street, Newark. Performances begin at 7:30 PM in the intimate Victoria Theater. Tickets are $25–$30. Call 888.466.5722 or visit NJPAC for more information and tickets.
